Hosting Rules
These guidelines and regulations apply to all domain and subdomain hostees, unless specified otherwise.
Any violation of these will result to a warning or an account termination, depending on the gravity of the offense.
These rules are subject to change without prior notice. However, we will inform all hostees of any changes that significantly affect their accounts.
Even if you are an applicant, please read the As a Hostee section to be aware of our allowable content and network requirements.
As an Applicant
1. You must be 13 years old or above. No age limit upwards, though. We welcome people from all walks of life, regardless of gender, race or creed.
2. Provide your real name or a believable online handle, nothing like m1leyR0x143 or I<3RobEdw@rd.
3. Provide an active, valid email address. We will not resend an email that has bounced back.
4. Submit a proper website sample, preferably one uploaded to and active on a server. If you cannot get your site online, upload screenshots to Photobucket or somewhere similar and submit your album address. The layout and content must be your own - no exceptions!
5. Your site has to fall in one or more of the following types:
- Blog
- Personal
- Collective
- Fansite
- Network (fanlisting, clique, directory, etc.)
- Writing (poetry, fiction, fanfics, etc.)
- Visual Arts (graphics, illustrations, photography, web comics, etc.)
6. Applicant must display web design skills as well as the ability to provide good content. Great design and content are the reasons why Beloved was created!
7. Your site must be in English. You can slot in words and phrases in other languages, but the primary language should be English.
8. You must know FTP and cPanel.
9. Mention the scripts you intend to use on your site in your application (such as WordPress, etc.) and what you need to make these functional (such as PHP5+, a MySQL database, etc.)
10. If you are applying for a domain hosting account, please make sure you already own the domain name you will write down in your application. We do not accept free domain names, such as .tk, .co.cc, etc.
11. Only single-owner sites are accepted. There must only be one applicant/hostee for each account.
12. Answer Poipoi to the question “Sweetie?” in the application form. This is proof that you have read the rules and that you are human.
13. You must be aware that we will accept and reject applications at our discretion. For instance, even if you complied with all of the above but your site has no content to speak of, we will reject your application. All our decisions are always objective. Please don’t take things personally.
14. If rejected, we will advise you whether you can reapply or not.
As a Hostee
1. If we accept your application, your site must be up two weeks (14 days) after we have sent your Hosting Details email. Your approval date is on the Members List.
2. Put a link back to the main domain, Beloved.nu, as your host on a clearly visible area of your site, preferably the index or main page (non-negotiable). You can use a text link or a button (we love buttons!).
3. Hostees are not allowed to offer free hosting services. You can always refer people who need hosting directly to Beloved.
4. Advertisements (Adsense, TextLinkAds, etc.) are allowed, so long as you do not overdo it and make your site a blatant “monetizing” project.
5. You should not make earning money the main reason for your site’s existence. You can put up a PayPal donation button somewhere, but you cannot make your website an online shop for your photographs, crafts, etc. If you need web hosting for something not accepted in Beloved, please contact Shi.
6. No pornography, warez or any other illegal content on your site. If we find any on your site, your account will be deleted without warning.
7. Uploading malicious files to the server or sending spam are subject to immediate account termination.
8. Do not steal copyrighted materials (layouts, images, media files, etc.) and post these as your own. The work of others must be properly credited if used on your site.
9. Account security should be your priority. Please do not give out your login details (username, password and others) to other people.
10. Keep your scripts (WordPress, Enthusiast, etc.) updated to minimize security risks.
11. Do not use our webspace for storage or hotlink/direct-link to your files on this server. Get an account elsewhere, such as PhotoBucket or MegaUpload.
12. Update at least once a month. The more dynamic and active your site is, the better! If you are going on hiatus, please inform us. If your site is not updated for more than two months without any notice of hiatus, we will delete your account.
13. If there are any changes to your personal details (online handle, email, etc.), inform us. Keep your information with us updated at all times.
14. Please back-up your website regularly. Beloved will not be held responsible for any data loss.
15. You will be informed of server issues related to your site – downtime, high disk space or bandwidth consumption, hacking, spamming – as soon as we are aware of any of these. You will be given options and a reasonable length of time to rectify the problem.
16. Status updates will be given on the main page. If we experience downtime, we have Blogger and Twitter accounts where we will post news.
17. If you wish to leave the network, please inform us. Indicate if you wish to have your account deleted immediately, or have it active for a maximum of another week to redirect visitors to your new URL. Back up your site before telling us that you want to leave Beloved.
